Characterisation of Nose-only Exposure system for Rodents

چکیده
An inhalation exposure chamber, referred to as the Small Animal Inhalation Rig (SAIR) has been designed to expose test subjects to inhalation aerosols whilst minimising the amount of compound used. This inhalation chamber may be employed for acute inhalation studies with dry powder aerosols involving mice, rats or guinea pigs. This rig consists of two main parts; a fluidised bed aerosol generator (FBAG 3400A) and connection of the generator output to a nose only exposure chamber capable of exposing 12 animals.

Exposing animals to oxidant gases: nose only vs. whole body.
Inhalation experiments using laboratory animals are performed under controlled conditions to assess the toxicity of and to investigate interventional strategies to ameliorate injury resulting from oxidant gas exposures. A variety of dynamic inhalation exposure systems that use whole-body or nose-only exposure chambers have been developed for rodents. In a whole-body exposure chamber, the animal...

Inhalation exposure models are becoming the preferred method for the comparative study of respiratory infectious diseases due to their resemblance to the natural route of infection. To enable precise delivery of pathogen to the lower respiratory tract in a manner that imposes minimal biosafety risk, nose-only exposure systems have been developed. Early inhalation exposure technology for infecti...

Obstructive respiratory diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are currently treated by inhaled anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator drugs. Despite the availability of multiple treatments, both diseases are growing public health concerns. The majority of asthma patients are well controlled on current inhaled therapies but a substantial number of patients with seve...
متن کاملToxicological Assessment of Inhaled Nanoparticles: Role of in Vivo, ex Vivo, in Vitro, and in Silico Studies
The alveolar epithelium of the lung is by far the most permeable epithelial barrier of the human body. The risk for adverse effects by inhaled nanoparticles (NPs) depends on their hazard (negative action on cells and organism) and on exposure (concentration in the inhaled air and pattern of deposition in the lung). With the development of advanced in vitro models, not only in vivo, but also cel...
متن کاملThe Musculature That Drives Active Touch by Vibrissae and Nose in Mice.
Coordinated action of facial muscles during whisking, sniffing, and touching objects is an important component of active sensing in rodents. Accumulating evidence suggests that the anatomical schemes that underlie active sensing are similar across the majority of whisking rodents. Intriguingly, however, muscle architecture in the mystacial pad of the mouse was reported to be different, possessi...
